Nelson Mandela Primary School is a school in Sasolburg in the Free State, that the My Maths Buddy project has worked with for the past 7 years. Proudly sponsored by the AESSEAL & AESPUMP companies this school champions ahead with their remarkable successes that they achieve due to their hard work and with the help from the My Maths Buddy program.
All Maths teachers have completed the My Maths Buddy Effective Maths Teaching program and passed their SACE assessments, and every year new grade 5 learners join the My Maths Buddy Learner program and then apply what they have learned for the rest of their primary school years.
This prepares learners very well for their high school career.

Ms. Chabela, the principal of Nelson Mandela Primary School, is very happy with the results. Since the My Maths Buddy project began the school has achieved quite a few amazing wins that she shared recently.
Here is what she had to say:
“Nelson Mandela Primary school is hereby expressing its sincere gratitude for the effort you took to educate grade 5 learners since 2018. Ever since we have made use of the materials you gave us, our school has been performing very well in the subject of Mathematics.
Furthermore, our school has been awarded the certificate of position 1 in the Circuit 3 for obtaining more Level 7s (Level 7 is 80-100% mark and is a distinction level) in Mathematics and Language than any other schools. We also received a certificate for the position 1 in obtaining an average of 75.7% in Mathematics. Lastly, three of our learners succeeding to the district level in the Mental Maths Competition this year (2 grade 7 learners and 1 grade 6 learner).

Last year the school also won an Outstanding Performance Award for being the BEST PERFORMING SCHOOL amongst all the schools that are part of the My Maths Buddy Clubs movement. 100% pass rate, biggest number of Level 7 learners, 75% average mark and this is just the beginning!

My Maths Buddy Club activities
Learners are actively participating in in-class and extramural activities called the My Maths Buddy Club. The Club activities are closely aligned with the annual ATPs and CAPS curriculum and help the Department of Education to bring better understanding of Maths to learners and thus help learners to succeed in this subject!
