For many learners, the problem isn’t always what they’re learning today. It’s what they never fully understood years ago and that’s exactly what My Maths Buddy is working to change!
WE DON’T JUST MOVE FORWARD. WE GO BACK TO GET IT RIGHT!
At Sikhothina Primary School near Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape, our Grade 6 learners began their My Maths Buddy Club journey with assessments designed to uncover gaps in their understanding of Maths terminology. Some of these gaps trace all the way back to Grade R!
Instead of allowing these misunderstandings to follow learners into higher grades, our correctional program tackles them at their source, clearing up misunderstood words, rebuilding understanding and progressing through each grade’s terminology, one step at a time.
NOW, THE RESULTS ARE SPEAKING! 20% IMPROVEMENT AS A GROUP!
Our Grade 6 learners achieved a 20% increase between their Grade R terminology pre-assessment and reassessment
but there’s one learner whose progress deserves a special spotlight…
FROM 33% TO 95%!
One Grade 6 learner went from scoring just 33% in her initial Grade R terminology assessment to an incredible 95% in her reassessment on her grade R work!
A remarkable 62-percentage improvement! Behind this huge leap is something even more meaningful: a learner developing a stronger understanding of the Maths language that she needs in order to progress with confidence. This is. what makes My Maths Buddy different.
We don’t simply help learners keep up. We help them understand what was holding them back in the first place.
