There are two reasons why it should. First of all, such a situation significantly reduces the pool of potential professionals for South Africa. And don’t we already have a huge shortage of such professionals?
Talking about a shortage of professionals, did you know that in 2025 84% of South African companies struggled to recruit such professionals? The top professionals that these companies are struggling to hire are engineering, IT and technology.
South Africa’s labour market is experiencing a shift from low-skilled to medium- and high-skilled roles, and many of our youth cannot meet the demands.
The less professionals the country produces the more our country’s economy stagnates. And it does affect all of us starting at a personal level with things such as price increases and, if you are an executive or a business owner, you feel it when you are confronted with your current budgets or year end financials. And here is the second reason. Your Human Resources are most likely overwhelmed with the volume of “situations” that they are faced with daily. Most of the situations are linked to work ethics, morals and high staff turnover.
Maths is one of the few subjects that build a solid foundation for children in critical thinking and problem-solving skills in their day-to-day life. Generally, people with such skills make more right than wrong decisions in all aspects of their lives, including themselves, their families and their work. So, learners with better Maths skills are effective employees in the future.
The My Maths Buddy Community Project’s main purpose is to help learners understand Maths and successfully apply it not only in the classroom but in life too. We want to make sure they develop an interest in Maths and are excited to continue to learn it throughout their school career. And the more such learners we have the bigger our chances are of creating more professionals in
South Africa.

We need you to join us in our crusade to uplift standards of Maths education in South Africa. Every child you decide to sponsor will be given a chance to improve their Maths understanding and performance thus opening a door to better possibilities and higher abilities to not only survive well for themselves but also contribute positively to their society.
Every teacher you decide to sponsor will get trained on how to teach Maths with full understanding and how to bring love for Maths.
You can either choose a school in your community like many of our sponsors do or support one of the schools that we already working with.
