People-related problems can quietly become one of the most expensive cost drivers in a business. While they don’t always show up as a single line item, research and industry benchmarks suggest that personnel-related inefficiencies can increase operating costs by roughly 15% to 40%+depending on severity. And we are not even talking about inflation, broken infrastructure, municipal services and crime rate in South Africa which inevitably spikes the operating costs between 15% to 30% a year (depending on the industry).
Majority of companies are faced with these challenges in our country. Most of those challenges are linked to people’s skills in critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. Mathematics is the number one subject in our educational system that develops those skills starting from a young age. So often children say: Why do I have to study Mathematics? I will not use most of the stuff I learn at school, all this high-level Maths!
And yes, most of the children will not use it literally. There are 156 professions that require Maths knowledge and application and only about 20% of them must know and apply “high-level Maths stuff”. Professions like engineers, chemists, pharmacists, etc. But there are 3 important facts that these children, their parents and most importantly teachers are never taught.
FACT NO. 1:
MATHEMATICS DEVELOPS CHILD’S ABILITIES IN CRITICAL THINKING AND PROBLEM SOLVING.
FACT NO. 2:
FOR A CHILD TO SUCCEED IN A CHOSEN PROFESSION AND IN LIFE IN GENERAL THEY MUST AQQUIRE THESE ABILITIES.
FACT NO. 3:
MATHEMATICS IS THE ONLY SUBJECT THAT DEVELOPS THESE ABILITIES.
All the problems with personnel stem from lack of these abilities.
Ability in critical thinking rises person’s responsibility. Such person takes ownership of work, doesn’t wait to be told everything and thinks ahead instead of reacting.
Ability in problem solving creates initiative and proactiveness. Without it, problems are ignored or passed on, work slows down and managers must step in constantly.
Work ethic is not just attitude, it is a skill-based behavior.
And these skills are built in our children constantly throughout their school career with Maths being subject No.1 that contributes to it.
My Maths Buddy project’s goalis to get learners to improve their understanding of Maths and their abilities to apply it. We also work with Maths teachers and help them to improve their skills in teaching Maths with full understanding.

We need you to join us in our crusade to uplift standards of Maths education in South Africa. Every child you decide to sponsor will be given a chance to improve their Maths understanding and performance thus opening a door to better possibilities and higher abilities to not only survive well for themselves but also contribute positively to their society.
Every teacher you decide to sponsor will get trained on how to teach Maths with full understanding and how to bring love for Maths.
You can either choose a school in your community like many of our sponsors do or support one of the schools that we already working with.
