KUEHNE & NAGEL SUPPORT CREATES POSITIVE CHANGE IN MATHEMATICS
Tlhakanang Primary School, Tembisa, Gauteng
We are very excited to welcome this new project and new partnership with Kuehne & Nagel South Africa and thank them for their incredible support in creating the ability to learn & teach Maths with understanding.
Our partnership begun earlier 2025 when a primary school in Tembisa, Tlhakanang Primary school was nominated to get enrolled onto the My Maths Buddy program.
Thanks to the amazing support of Kuehne & Nagel South Africa, 10 Maths teachers and 160 Grade 6 and Grade 5 learners enrolled onto the My Maths Buddy program with the purpose of improving their understanding of Maths, thus building a foundation for better performance.
Kuehne & Nagel is a leader in global logistics with over 82 000 professionals and over 400 000 happy customers around the world.

Mathematics plays a dominant role in helping young people become professionals in the workaday world and we are extremely thankful to Kuehne & Nagel South Africa for helping children from Tembisa to embark on the journey of discovering how to learn Maths with understanding so they too can achieve their dreams of becoming professionals of their choice. The South African economy is in dire need of professionals with a high work ethic and dedication to growth.
Our first program intervention was scheduled for the beginning of May 2025 and we got the ball rolling with Mathsteachers and learners completing their initial training, setting them up for the rest of the program activities.
Maths teachers training was quite impactful with one of the Maths teachers describing it as follows:
“I have been empowered and realized that what I thought was the right method to explain the Maths terminology to learners was wrong. Now I am fully empowered and looking forward not to repeating the same mistakes. I thought that the learners find it hard to understand but only to realize that I might be a reason.”
–Mr. Simon Makhura, Grade 5 teacher

A team of 4 Maths teachers for Grades 5 and 6, with the help of our My Maths Buddy team, have also established and launched the My Maths Buddy Club activities with their struggling learners.
The My Maths Buddy Club activities are in-class and extramural activities that are fully aligned with the guidelines for Maths teachers from the Department of Education and enhance their teaching activities.
Learners, equipped with the My Maths Buddy kits, and newly acquired knowledge on how to learn Maths with understanding are encouraged to learn and excel in Maths. Like these two learners who put it in their own words:
“I feel excited about Maths and I like what My MathsBuddy Program is teaching us. I enjoyed the session, it was really fun having them. Thanks for helping us learn more about Maths. Grade 6A learner
“I feel like a happy boy who just bought a sweet, it makes me feel like I am in paradise. The numbers are amazing and I personally love Maths more than anything. Thank you My Maths Buddy for teaching us more about Maths.”Grade 5C learner

We are starting to see an improvement in learners’ performance. Since the beginning of the year the Grade 5 group of learners have improved their pass rate by 26% and the Grade 6 group improved by 12% with both groups now showing 100% pass rate.
The average marks are also on the rise when comparing term 1 and term 3 internal school assessments. The Grade 5 group of learners improved their results from 49% to 66% showing an improvement of 17%. And the Grade 6 group has improved by 16%, achieving an average of 71%.

| Our journey with the team of teachers and learners has just begun and we are excited to continue. |

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Kuehne & Nagel South Africa for their unwavering support and belief in the power of education.
