NELSON MANDELA PRIMARY SCHOOL IS OFFICIALLY
ON THE ROLL!

We are excited to share a wonderful update from Nelson Mandela Primary Schoolwhere our team completed their first intervention of the year in January 2026. Over two impactful days, our team worked closely with both teachers and learners to lay the foundation for a year of stronger Maths understanding and enthusiasm for Mathematics.

During this first intervention, 40 learners and their Maths teachers participated in our interactive workshops and training sessions which are designed to address one of the biggest barriers to Maths success; understanding the language of Maths.

Learners attended three focused seminars where they explored why Maths matters in everyday life. They learnt how to use the My Maths Buddy dictionary to better understand key terminology and began working through difficult topics identified during their assessments by us, using our correction methodology. The sessions also introduced learners to the exciting My Maths Buddy Club extramural activities, which continues supporting them throughout the year.

The enthusiasm from learners was equally inspiring. Every learner received
their My Maths Buddy learner kit
and the feedback collected after the workshops showed strong engagement and motivation. 95% of learners said they are excited
to learn more about Maths
, while 100% expressed interest in joining the My Maths Buddy Club, participating in Maths competitions, and taking part in fun learning activities that include games and prizes. Many learners shared that learning new Maths words was one of the most valuable parts of the workshop, reinforcing how important Maths language is in building real understanding.

The intervention also sparked conversations about the future. When learners were asked what they dream of becoming one day, answers ranged from doctors and nurses to engineers, scientists and teachers and every learner agreed that understanding Maths well will help them achieve these goals. Moments like these remind us why building Maths confidence early can have such a powerful impact on a child’s future

The program has now moved into its next phase, with the launch of the My Maths Buddy Club extramural activities underway, learners’ are actively participating in and discovering and solve root issues that affect their Maths understanding. Over the coming months the My Maths Buddy Team will continue supporting teachers and their learners weekly and helping learners strengthen their understanding step by step.

We are truly grateful for partnership with AESSEAL & AESPUMP! Thank you
for being part of a community that believes every child deserves the opportunity to truly understand Maths.

Each project, empowered teacher and partnership formed brings us one step closer to changing the trajectory of Maths education for thousands of learners. Together,
we are not only supporting teachers and their learners, we are building stronger foundations for the next generation.
